Corporate Social Responsibility In Action

“We are a socially and environmentally responsible organisation with a strong ethical code” (TransVision)

Social responsibility is at the heart of our identity and is of great importance to all of our stakeholders. Transcom makes a consistent contribution to communities, through charitable and volunteer efforts, and to the environment, through such initiatives as increasing energy efficiency in our sites and IT platform, and the adoption of more environmentally friendly practices.

Sustainability is Our Priority

Like any global business, Transcom consumes a significant amount of energy and resources to keep our operations going. Transcom is committed to environmentally sustainable business practices, while continuing to provide our clients with industry-leading services.

New Leaf logoNew Leaf Initiative

The New Leaf initiative harnesses the potential of our 20,000+ workforce to reduce Transcom’s environmental impact. Among other things, New Leaf encourages everyone at Transcom to turn off electrical appliances when they are not in use, and to separate, reuse and recycle materials whenever possible.

Paper Reduction Initiative

We are now able to deliver paper-free training to more than 8,000 Transcom employees with our Contact Centre In-Line (CCIL) application. More than 200,000 sheets of A4 were saved in 2007 just by using CCIL.

Internal Communication

TransNews, our quarterly, company-wide video news bulletin, continues to keep Transcom stakeholders up-to-date without using a single sheet of paper, saving over 400,000 sheets of A4 per year.

Green Technology Platform

We continue to make tangible strategic changes to our IT Platform, bringing about increased operational efficiency and reductions to our carbon footprint.

Server Consolidation

Server consolidation allows us to reduce the energy consumption of our servers and of the associated infrastructure required to keep them running constantly, which includes storage space, lighting, security systems and, most significantly, air conditioning.

Through our server consolidation programme, we consolidated 70 of our servers into 3 in 2007.  The process will continue world-wide. This year 29 servers will be consolidated into just 4 using VMware technology in Vélizy, France.

Thin Client Hardware

Thin client hardware is a key component of Transcom’s environmentally-friendly IT strategy, allowing the user to access all required applications and information through a central server, on a terminal that does not contain a hard drive. This cuts back energy consumption by at least 50% when compared to a conventional PC. 300 thin clients have already been installed, and installations continue.

Modified Travel Policy

Transcom ‘s revised travel policy outlines a more stringent flight approval process to cut-down on overall air travel, thereby reducing petrol usage and CO2 emissions. We encourage business travellers to consider alternatives such as video conferencing, conference calls or online meetings.
